Lapu-Lapu. 16th Century hero.

The first Filipino who repelled European aggression. There are unconfirmed accounts that Fernans are descended from him.

Senator President Marcelo Briones Fernan. (25 October 1927 - 11 July 1999).

The first Filipino to have headed top positions in two government branches, as Senate President and Supreme Court Chief Justice.

Dr. Maximo C. Fernan (+1 March 2001) receiving the Dr. Quitin J. Gomez Award in Anesthesiology in 1991.

Dr. Maximo C. Fernan was a recipient of the Dr. Quitin J. Gomez Award in Anesthesiology in 1991. The Dr. Quitin Gomez award is the highest and most prestigious award for any anesthesiologist in the Philippines. Dr.Max Fernan was responsible for organizing the anesthesia training program of Southern Islands Hospital in 1961. He was one of the organizers of the PSA Cebu Chapter in 1968. His main achievement is his steady efforts in training generations of anesthesiologists now practicing in the Visayas and Mindanao.

 

 

Marcial Sanson (+ 4 February 1999), lyricist and composer of 'Gulong ng Palad' theme song.

Marcial was the TV Executive who thought of turning the 1949 Gulong ng Palad radio serial into a daytime soap. He directed the first television version in 1997. He recorded Handumanan 1 (A Piano Anthology of Immortal Cebuano Songs) and Handumanan 2. The CDs are compilations of old Cebuano favourites that include Carmela, Pobreng Alindahaw, Dandansoy and Usahay among others. Marcial was a Television Executive at ABS-CBN in Manila and ABS in Cebu, and an Awit Awards winner in 1998 for Best Traditional Recording for Pobreng Alindahaw. The Awit Awards is a prestigious award-giving body that gives recognition to Filipino musical talents, performing artists and producers.
