Restituto Fernan

Restituto 'Totong' Fernan, son of Demetrio Pedroza Fernan was one of the first set of officials when Lala was created into a regular municipality on March 22, 1949.

I was officially introduced to Tio Totong by Papa Milton and Mama Lelang when we visited Lala (30?) years ago. He was already old and partially blind when I met him.

Interesting stories have been told about his ability to detect relatives a mile away. Tiptoe'ng or holding your breath when passing by his house do not work. My early morning tour upon our arrival demonstrated the accuracy of the story. I willingly followed Corine's advise to tiptoe when we saw him in front of his house, selling his green goods. He knew it was Corine, Day Roni's daughter. All of the sudden he shouted; 'Kinsa man nang imong kuyog?' He was infuriated even more when he learned that Papa and Mama were visiting Lala and had not visited him.

That afternoon, I was officially introduced to him by Papa.

Nene, his wife, sew Mama Lelang's wedding dress in 1946. Mama also recalls Tio Totong's banking style of keeping his money in tin cans and bury it in one of his rice fields. (hmmmmm... there might still be a few cans somewhere out there)
