The Official Website of the Municipality of Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental, Philippines also mentions Demetrio Fernan as one of the pioneering settlers who headed a petition for the creation of the Municipality of Bonifacfio:

The Municipality of Bonifacio was formerly a part of the Municipality of Tangub (now Tangub City), in the Province of Misamis Occidental.

With the pioneering settlers from the Province of Cebu, Bohol and Negros Oriental, they were able to acquire land and established permanent settlement. As the migrant land seekers continue to grow in number, they formed and constituted the original six barangays. The said barangays are Bagumbang, Bolinsong, Tiaman, Dimalco, Calolot and Buracan.

Anticipating the development trends of the six barangays that could eventually qualify for a municipality, the settlers headed by the late Andres Bersales and the late Demetrio Fernan initiated a petition for the creation of a new municipality.
